Good for what Ale’s ya!

This year the 2011 Ale-ing Festival will be held at Hayling Community Centre, and we couldn’t be more excited to try out this years amusingly titled brews. Some of our favourite names this year: “Worcester Sorcerer” and “Havant Started”.

“Long ago, on a wintery evening in February 1995, far across the water in the far flung town of Gosport, islanders John Adcock and Paul Fisher supped at a myriad of old English beers, whilst being entertained by traditional music submersed in a heady atmosphere, and there: in a semi-drunken haze, a spark of an idea formed, after some considerable watering, that seed grew, until, some time later that evening, a full blown notion struggled in to being.”

- from the Official Ale-ing Festival website

The festivities kick off on Friday the 7th of October from 6pm till 11pm, with live music including Shep Woolley:

“If Shep has an identity problem, it’s because he doesn’t fit neatly into a single category. … He told jokes – good ones – with a timing and style that suggested he should be playing on a bigger pitch than the village hall circuit”

Then on Saturday 8th October is a quiet session from 6.00 till 11.00pm, with no live music,  but how quiet a beer festival can be?

The last  day is on Sunday the 9th of October, from 6.30 till 11pm, and features music from the well-known band “The Cheese Doctors” – you can see a live show video here.

“Our annual Gala Dinner Dance really went with a bang, the Cheese Doctors were fantastic” – Sir Alfred Nobell

All in all, it looks to be a weekend to remember, and we at Inn on the Beach hope to see you there.

The National Windsurfing Festival

This year The National Windsurfing Festival (NWF) were held at our lovely Inn on the Beach, and we couldn’t be happier with the event.  Originating in 2006 with Allan Cross, a major in the British army, who has a strong passion for the wind and the waves . All an, his team, and a long list of supporters have helped take this event into its 6th year, and put it on the global sporting events calendar.

With 6 industry sponsored master blaster events, 2 main fleets for freeride and national level sailors and contestants coming in from as far as the Netherlands, this event had our coastlines sparkling with open sails and happy smiles.

We offered a special “windsurfer special” to all contestants, which went down a treat between events.

In the evening we were entertained by the fantastic “Heathrow Jets” , who gave a memorable performance as
contestants settled down after a long days surfing.

We would like to say a big thanks to all our staff for their help in making this event a very special one.

We would also like to thank our regulars for their patience during this disruption of our regular service.

June things to celebrate

All’s good in the foodie world in June and if you are looking for an excuse to do something new, look no further than these celebrations

National BBQ Week  (UK) -  May 30th – 5th June. You can see some great BBQ recipes here from around the world.

National Papaya Month - called the “fruit of angels” by Christopher Columbus, papayas are an excellent source of vitamin C and also folate, potassium and fibre. Try them sliced and de-seeded with Proscuitto and a squeeze of lime juice for a lovely little starter.

National Iced Tea Month

Eat Your Vegetables Day – June 17 . So, erm, well go and eat some vegetables!

A celebration of the humble sandwich

This week (16th May) is British Sandwich week – a celebration of this great British institution. We have a fabulous range to choose from…. although admittedly we do venture off into baguettes a little

“It has been well said that a hungry man is more interested in four sandwiches than four freedoms.”
Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr., American diplomat

“One of the nicest things about life is we must regularly stop whatever it is we are doing & devote our attention to eating.”
Pavarotti

A right royal weekend

We started in style – champagne, scrambled eggs and smoked salmon breakfast, with our early-bird Union Jack-adorned customers!

The wedding was completely fabulous and we enjoyed the whole spectacle, our royal menu went down a treat too and the whole long weekend was one of smiling happy (slightly tipsy!) people.

If you took some photos over the weekend especially on the wedding day, please feel free to send them or paste them on our facebook page.
